The quick answer

A race without a shared track.

NextRival synchronizes one versioned command script across two phones. Each runner performs it in their own safe outdoor space; the server compares only bounded, privacy-safe evidence.

70%
of each round score comes from valid distance.
16+
is the initial audience for the Android release.
0
raw GPS coordinates leave your device.

How it works

Three commands. One honest result.

Audio and haptics keep your eyes up. The screen remains useful, but it is never required while you move.

  1. 01

    Get ready

Choose a format, check GPS and motion sensors, acknowledge your surroundings, and meet a compatible rival.

  2. 02

    Follow the call

Sprint, settle on Stop, and reverse on 180. Both runners receive the same command timeline and countdown.

  3. 03

    Read the result

See valid distance, completed commands, reaction contribution, integrity status, and the exact rating change.

Choose your effort

Fast power or sustained pace.

SPRINT3 × 30

Explosive, short and sharp.

Best of three 30-second rounds with a mandatory 45-second recovery. Built for repeatable acceleration and clean responses.

  • Independent Sprint rating
  • Short complete session
  • Recovery cannot be skipped in ranked play
ENDURANCE5 × 60

Hold form under pressure.

Best of five 60-second rounds with 75 seconds of mandatory recovery. A longer test of repeatable work.

  • Independent Endurance rating
  • Sustained interval challenge
  • No surprise tie-break sprint

Competition you can inspect

Movement wins. The rules stay fixed.

Scores are deterministic, versioned and bounded. Purchases cannot change the contest. Ranked rivals may be simultaneous runners, accepted human replays, or calibrated synthetic performances—and the app never labels a replay or bot as live.

Your route is not the product.

Precise location and raw sensor samples are processed on your phone during an active round. Coordinates, routes and live location are not sent to NextRival’s server or shown to an opponent.

Questions people ask

NextRival FAQ

What is NextRival?

NextRival is a competitive outdoor interval-training game for Android. Two players receive the same timed movement commands, perform them wherever they have safe space, and contest a best-of match.

Do we have to run in the same place?

No. Each runner uses their own safe outdoor space. A server-authored command script and synchronized countdown create the shared contest.

Does NextRival upload or show my route?

No. Raw coordinates, route, bearing and live location stay on the device. Only derived evidence—such as valid distance, sample counts, timing and command outcomes—may leave it. See the privacy policy.

Who can play?

The initial release is intended for people aged 16 and over. NextRival is an active game, not medical advice; play only where you have a clear, lawful space and stop if you feel unwell.

Is every rival live?

Not necessarily. Ranked matchmaking searches for a compatible live runner first, then may use an accepted human replay or a calibrated synthetic performance. The app discloses what kind of rival you raced and never makes a false live claim.

Is NextRival pay to win?

No. Purchases are limited to cosmetics and optional analytics. They cannot affect scoring, matchmaking, rest, evidence acceptance, ratings or leaderboard visibility.

How do I delete my account?

From the NextRival home screen, open Settings · Account & privacy, tick the permanent-deletion acknowledgement, and tap Delete account. See the account deletion page for full details.

Your next rival is the clock.

One start. Two runners. No shared track required.
